Welcome to the web site of the Cochrane Collaborative Back Review Group (BRG), one of 52 international Review Groups. The BRG coordinates the publication of literature reviews of primary and secondary prevention and treatment of neck and back pain and other spinal disorders, excluding inflammatory diseases and fractures.

Attention all CBRG members submitting documents (title requests, manuscripts, etc.) to Editorial Office:

The Editorial Office receives a high volume of emails with different attachments and our spam filters sometimes stop them, destroy them, or both.

If you submit a document by email to the CBRG editorial office and do not receive a reply within 2 business days, please follow-up with a text-only email (excluding attachments) or a phone call.

You may need to re-send the document.

We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Thank you.

Message to Canadian Cochrane Subscribers and Stakeholders:
The Cochrane national license pilot via Wiley ceased on February 1, 2010. In order to communicate with Canadians about the end of the trial, Wiley will be creating a branded webpage in early February to which Canadians will be referred, offering a survey/feedback option, allowing them to sign-up for more information and for future email communications and the option to sign up for a free 6-month individual trial. For more information, click here.

Do you have a question about a treatment for neck or back pain that we may be able to answer by doing a systematic review? If so, please send your ideas to Vicki Pennick, Managing Editor at cochrane@iwh.on.ca or vpennick@iwh.on.ca

In an effort to increase dissemination to a larger audience, in January 2010 we started to have the abstracts and plain language summaries of all new and updated reviews translated into French (click here).

We hope this is of interest and help to our French readers. We look forward to your comments.

The 11th International Forum on Low-Back Pain Research in Primary Care will take place in Melbourne, Australia, 15th to 18th March, 2011.

This meeting will be structured around improving low back pain (LBP) outcomes, with an emphasis on engaging patients and other stakeholders to achieve the outcomes important to them.

A message regarding surgical reviews
The Editorial Board has recently decided that it is important to take a step back and decide on the most appropriate way to proceed with surgical reviews.

We have now consulted with a number of leading international surgeons in the field of low-back surgery and are about to engage others who are involved in neck surgery; their advice will be taken into consideration by the Editorial Board when they finalize the plan. Until then, we will not be accepting new titles for surgical reviews.

We will notify readers of the decisions of the Board as soon as possible.
